28. Relationship between subtle and gross madhyama

Verse 28

Aadhyaa kaaranam anyaa kaaryam tvanayo: yatastato heto:

Saeeveyam nahibedhastaatmyam hetu hetumadabesshtani

“The first (aadhyaa- subtle madhyama) is the cause (kaarana) and the other (gross madhyama) is the effect (kaaryam).  The latter (subtle) is the same as the former (gross).  There is verily no difference between the two for the identity of cause (hetu) and effect (hetumat) is axiomatic (dishta).”

Commentary:

The subtle madhyama is the cause for the gross madhyama.  They are related as cause and effect and hence are identical.

ஆத்யா காரணம் அன்யா கார்யம் த்வனயோ: யதஸ்ததோ ஹேதோ:

சயீவேயம் நஹிபேதஸ்தாத்ம்யம் ஹேது ஹேதுமதபீஷ்டானி

“முதலில் இருப்பது காரணம் (சூட்சும மத்யமா) அடுத்து இருப்பது (ஸ்தூல மத்யமா) காரியம்.  முதலில் இருப்பது அடுத்து இருப்பதே. அவர்களுக்கிடையே எவ்வித வித்தியாசமும் இல்லை.  ஏனெனில் அவை காரண காரியங்கள் என்ற உறவைக் கொண்டுள்ளன.”

விளக்கவுரை:

சூட்சும மத்யமாவிலிருந்து ஸ்தூல மத்யமா தோன்றுகிறது.  அவை காரண காரியங்கள் என்ற தொடர்பைக் கொண்டுள்ளன.
